Quick question--is it okay to send a query to more than one agent per agency? Or should you just choose the person that you think is the best fit and only send it to him/her?
Writer's House, for example, says to only send it to one, unless you're sending to different offices (i.e. San Fran and NY) Others don't mind so much.
Generally I would suggest choosing the person in the agency that seems to be handling work that is most like yours. But, if two of them seem like they would work and you are sending it to separate e-mail accounts, then go ahead and do it. I wouldn't send two similarly addressed mailed queries to two people in the same agency. But that's just me.
Dont query multiple people at one agency at the same time. If one shoots you down at the QUERY stage, you're totally fine sending a query to another....
If you get more towards the requested full, it might have been passed around or discussed prior to rejections, so that gets trickier.
OH, this is partially becuase what happens if they both love it? That might create tension between the two agents, or they might decide, out of respect, to both pass. Plus if they talk about it and find out they're both considering it, in some cases it might tick 'em off.
It's my general understanding that most agents will pass along a good query to another agent in their agency if they think it's right for the other person. Operative word here is "good." So no, I don't think you need to query them both. Some Web sites will specifically state that all the agents look at them and share them; and some will say you need to query a specific agent. I would just try one, see if there are any bites, and later try the other (and in the mean time, you're querying other agents, too, right???).
More than one agency: YES. More than one agent at same agency: NO!!!!!!!!!! (I'll add another exclamation mark here to further emphasise)! Don't be shy to drop an email and ask (only if they don't specifically list in their email or another publication who handles what) ie: Dear Super_Agency, I have a 450k word Mystery/Thriller and wanted to know who in your agency would be interested handling that query and if they are accepting new authors at this time. v/r n00b_Novelist_X

depends
It depends on the agency's policy.Writer's House, for example, says to only send it to one, unless you're sending to different offices (i.e. San Fran and NY)
Others don't mind so much.
